My name is Elliott Steimer and I am a junior majoring in microbiology and minoring in french. I moved to the US 6 years ago from London, England and now live on the eastern shore of Maryland. I just graduated from Global Communities living learning program and am a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. I love to run, play soccer and just generally be outside. Like most college students I have an addiction to Netflix, my favorite shows being breaking bad and game of thrones.
I decided to become an alternative break leader after having such a positive experience on the AB trip to Guatemala. I’m now excited to be a trip leader with Christy on our AB trip to Harlan, Kentucky. I am always excited to travel to new places and meet people with varying backgrounds from myself, so this trip should be a lot of fun.
Hi, I’m Christy Tsui, a junior from Towson, MD majoring in chemistry! Aside from AB, I conduct research in a bioengineering lab and with my Gemstone team, EPIDEMICS. I am a teaching assistant and section leader for various classes, and am involved in Honors Ambassadors, the Student Health Advisory Committee, and Alpha Chi Sigma, the chemistry fraternity. In my free time, I enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and catching up my some of my favorite TV shows: How I Met Your Mother, Arrested Development, and the Vampire Diaries.
Last year, I was a TL for SAB Boston, a trip on which I had previously been a participant. This year, I am SO excited to be part of the Kentucky team and to tackle different social justice issues – marginalized populations, rural poverty, and community development. I’ve never really been exposed to rural areas, and I hope this trip will serve as a culture shock to me, raising my awareness about poverty in different regions.
