We departed for Harlan, Kentucky just before the
snow hit the DC area. We spent 9 hours driving on the highways, then through country roads, twisting and turning in between mountains. When we arrived in Harlan, we warmly welcomed by Mark, our contact from the local hospital. He escorted us to Camp Blanton, where will be staying for the week, At the camp, the site manager, John, showed us our cabin and bathroom facility (our showers have skylights in the roof!). We made pasta for dinner and ate in front of a warm fireplace.
After dinner, our group participated in a pre-trip activity where we outlined
our goals for the week and standards for ourselves. We then ended the night
with Apples to Apples. We are incredibly
tired, so we are looking forward to a good night’s sleep!
