After the first night in Harlan, we've been able to settle down and unpack.
On Sunday, we set out for our first expedition- the Cumberland Gap. What exactly is the Cumberland Gap? (Or the Cumby Gap, as I'd like to call it) It's the apex where Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky meet. There's definitely a rich history behind it filled with tales of buffalo, pioneer traveling, and civil war history.
Our group set out and hiked up to see the historic intersection of three states and it was gorgeous! It was amazing to truly feel like you're on top of "the world" with just you and nature (miraculously we had cell service, so I'm sure the 'gram was not forgotten). Afterwards, we set out to the Pinnacle Overlook for some more sweet sights and good vibes.
As we drove back, I couldn't help but think of the incomparable beauty of Middlesboro and Harlan. I spoke to Amanda (our amazing Trip Advisor) and remarked at the beautiful roads that seemed to cut right through gorgeous stone rock. It's incredibly easy to forget these sights when you've lived here for so long but when everything is new to you, you're able to soak it all in.
Stellar pics below.
